East Sac Softball
East Sac Little League proudly offers Rookies, Minors and Majors Softball Divisions for girl's ages 7 - 12.
A child's placement in a division is determined primarily by league age as dictated by Little League International, and secondarily by skill level. Please review the2022 Little League Softball Age Chart available on our website under the "Softball" tab before registering your child for the 2022 season.
Tryouts: Tryouts for Majors, Minors and Rookies Divisions are held each year in January to determine a child's skill level and readiness. Rookies, Minors and Majors divisions are formed primarily by age with skill also taken intro consideration.
The age ranges for each division are as follows:
- Rookies: Open to girl's, league age 7 and 8.
- Minors: Open to girl's, league age 9 and 10. Eight-year-olds possessing advanced skills may also be accommodated by special request with permission of the League.
- Majors: Open to girl's league age 11 and 12, although 10-year-olds possessing advanced skills may be accommodated by special request with permission of the League.
See the descriptions below for more information on each division as well as a contact point if you have questions.Our Rookies division focuses on skill development and teamwork, and is the first level of Softball we offer to our community of girls when they are ready to make the transition from baseball, or are new to the sport. Players learn game basics such as the difference between force outs and tag outs. Children are given opportunities to try many different positions and learn that it is okay to make mistakes.
Rookies consists of children ages 7 and 8. Tryouts are held in January each year in order to assess each child's abilities to ensure evenly balanced teams. Teams are drafted by managers in early February and practices begin in February (weather permitting).
Rookies softball is played as follows:
- Six inning games
- 10 players in the field (four outfielders)
- Coach-pitch
- No leading or stealing
- No bunting
- Maximum of five runs per inning (except the last inning)
- No standings are kept and there are no playoffs
- Station-to-station (no extra bases on overthrows)
- Children play in both the infield and outfield regularly

Minors
Our Minors division continues the emphasis on skill development and teamwork, while also introducing more advanced baseball concepts such as stealing bases, advancing on overthrows, bunting, outfield relays, and pitching and catching.
The Minors division consists of children ages 9 and 10, along with some advanced 8 year olds. Tryouts are held in January each year to assess each child's abilities to ensure evenly balanced teams. Teams are drafted by managers in early February and practices begin in February (weather permitting).
Minors softball is played as follows:
- Six inning games
- Games are umpired
- Games are against teams from other leagues
- Nine players in the field
- Players pitch
- No leading
- Stealing is permitted after a pitch crosses home plate
- Bunting is permitted
- Maximum of five runs per inning (except the last inning)
- The best ESLL Minors team plays in the District 7 Tournament of Champions
- Children play in both the infield and outfield regularly

Majors
Our Majors Softball division continues the focus on skill development and teamwork. Players gain a familiarity with most aspects of the game and a general understanding of game situations.
Majors consists of children ages 11 and 12, along with 10 years olds possessing advanced skills. Tryouts are held in January each year in order to assess each child's abilities to ensure evenly balanced teams. Teams are drafted by managers in early February and practices begin in February (weather permitting).
Majors softball is played as follows:
- Six inning games
- Games are umpired
- Games are against teams from other leagues
- Nine players in the field
- Players pitch
- No leading
- Stealing is permitted after a pitch crosses home plate
- Bunting is permitted
- The best Majors team plays in the District 7 Tournament of Champions
